Paper

Make it your own.

  • A 24/7 Paper SMP for your friends that stays up while everyone sleeps.
  • A public community server with plugins, ranks and a whitelist, free to start.
  • A creative or testing world for builds, datapacks and pre-release experiments.
  • A staging copy of your network to trial Paper updates before going live.

Friends SMP

Paper on the free tier comfortably runs 5-15 players with a few plugins or mods.

Community server

Add 2-6 GB extra RAM for 30+ players, heavy plugin stacks and big farms.

Network node

Run Paper behind a Velocity proxy as one wing of a multi-server network.

Running a Paper server

Default ports, the files you'll edit, and what to know before you start. On Enzonic, the panel shows the exact ports assigned to your server.

Default ports

  • 25565/TCP (Java Edition)

Minimum RAM on Enzonic: 2 GB

Configuration

  • server.properties: world, game mode, difficulty, view distance
  • bukkit.yml and spigot.yml: Bukkit and Spigot settings Paper inherits
  • config/paper-global.yml and config/paper-world-defaults.yml: Paper's own performance and gameplay options

Good to know

  • Paper is a fork of Spigot with performance and stability patches. It runs Bukkit, Spigot and Paper plugins from the plugins folder.
  • Paper does not load Forge or Fabric mods. For mods, pick a Fabric, Forge or NeoForge server instead.
  • Lowering simulation-distance in server.properties is the quickest way to cut CPU load on a busy server.
